Ashdown Forest Walk & Briars Field Centre Visit – June 2014

Cherry and Larch children were lucky to go on a day out in the Ashdown Forest in the morning of Tuesday, 3rd June and then spend the afternoon at the  Briars Field Centre.     The walk was the “Marvellous Middle” of their Learning Journey,  concentrating on science and maths during the day and was also their introduction to Winnie the Pooh’s life story.   Just before lunch, and for their picnic,  they walked to Briars Field Centre, here in Hartfield, which has developed into a well regarded resource for the East Grinstead Wildlife Explorer Group.   Many local schools, pre-school groups, mental health volunteers, scouts and guides are also regular visitors.   The grounds cover a range of habitats including ponds, meadow, hedgerow studies, woodland exploration, composting and recycling.  The children of St Mary’s are very lucky indeed to have this wonderful resource on their doorstep – years Reception through to year six enjoy the wonderful facilities they have to offer.
