5th February, 2016

In our Monday assembly, it was a real pleasure to celebrate some of the observations made from our visitors on 25th January with the children. Several children came to the front of the school, picked a balloon and read out the achievements of St Mary’s. The comments shared were: there is a high level of engagement with learning; classrooms are calm, hardworking and well organised; children have a positive

attitude to learning; children respond quickly and are courteously; there is exemplary behaviour across the school; pupils are interested in and enthusiastic about their work and the teaching is lively and engaging. Well done everyone at St Mary’s.

Here is a copy of the letter which was sent out to the school community;

Dear St Mary’s Families,

Following on from the success of the improvements noted at our recent Governors Day we were pleased to welcome an external evaluator and advisor to St Mary’s on Monday 25th January2016. It was a planned visit to focus and evaluate how well the successful outcomes of 2014-2015 have been sustained and to evaluate our capacity for improvement in light of the recent leadership changes.

It was a pleasure to start the visit with a tour of the classrooms where our visitors were treated to ‘exemplary behaviour‘ and ‘very positive attitudes to learning from the pupils and ‘engaging and lively teaching’ from the teachers ‘ which led to pupils high levels of interest and enthusiasm for their work’ and that ‘support staff adopted a similar personal and engaging manner with pupils’.

Other observations made during the visit were:

The new headteacher has already made significant impact in moving the school forward and on the pathway to securing a judgement of ‘good’ at the next inspection and that she has been well supported by governors.’

‘High expectations pervade the school and our self evaluation is accurate and has identified the correct priorities.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the extremely dedicated, hard working staff of St Mary’s who continually strive for improvement with every child’s learning and well being at the heart of what they do.

We would also like to thank your wonderful and beautiful children for rising to the challenges and expectations that have been laid out before them, for building and showing perseverance and resilience on the way.

Finally we would like to thank you for your ongoing support of the school on its journey to excellence.

Best wishes,

Emma Maltby
